Come Raise a Toast
A Night of Fun and Fundraising!
On Saturday, October 5th, 2024, the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral social hall came alive with laughter, music, and the irresistible aroma of roasted pig at the annual Our Serbs fundraiser, aptly titled “Come Rise a Toast at Our Serbs Pig Roast.” From 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, families gathered for a night filled with delicious Serbian-style cuisine, an open bar, and toe-tapping country music.
The evening was made extra special by the presence of our esteemed guests, Father Vladimir Markovic and his wife Milica, who traveled all the way from Serbia. Fr. Vladimir’s dedication has fostered strong connections between Our Serbs and the Serbian Orthodox Church, enabling us to provide essential support to families in need. Father Vladimir addressed the guest with sincere words of gratitude for all the work that Our Serbs does in Serbia and Kosovo. Poster picture boards were on display to share some of the most recent housing projects.
The succulent pigs were donated and roasted, by Lazic Deli of Chicago. The church catering staff whipped up a mouthwatering dinner, complemented with the delectable desserts prepared by Our Serbs board members. Guests enjoyed sweet treats at the dessert table while reveling in the lively atmosphere.
Entertainment was provided by the “White Saddle Band,” whose vibrant performances of country classics had everyone on their feet. Ms. Janet led the crowd in line dancing, creating a joyful experience for guests of all ages.
The auction table, meticulously organized by our board members, boasted a diverse array of items—from beautiful jewelry and unique paintings to charming rakija flasks and bottles sourced from Serbian monasteries. There truly was something for everyone!
Guests added to the festive décor by donning a variety of country western hats, creating a fun and playful vibe that delighted both children and adults alike. In addition to raising some funds for the upcoming mission trip; it was a celebration of community, culture, and connection.
